As 2016 draws to a close, I’ve started to realise what a weird and wonderful this year has been. There has been a ridiculous amount of ups and downs, and I don’t think i’m the only one to feel this way. All i’m seeing across social media is people saying how shit this year was, and how hopeful we all are of a better 2017. But I guess that happens every year, doesn’t it?
The biggest highlight for me was completing a 3 month placement in London at M&S across spring time. Granted it was mandatory for my course at Uni, however I loved it so much and I learnt a lot from it. Plus living in Central London for 3 months was definitely an experience to remember. Whilst it was all fun and games, it was also a very expensive 3 months – but i’d go back and do it time and time again if I could.
I started off the summer by going to the British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park, this was a special moment for me because I was with my parents, watching Stevie Wonder. To some that would be the worst thing ever, but every family has their favourite artists or bands don’t they. Well to us Stevie Wonder is a mahousive legend. My dad chose the name Ayesha after Stevie Wonders’ daughter ‘Aisha’ because he loved it that much. Other than that, the summer was a quiet one, I basically worked and did uni work. I did go to Leeds Fest and then to Ibiza for a week with my family, and then back to working every bloody weekend again.
This leads us to the past fews months, they have been long and very emotional. Having received dreadful news either side of my family, it’s kind of put a cloud over Christmas. This doesn’t mean i’m not crazily excited, I still am, just this year will be a weird one. I’m not going to go into details, but because of this, I’ve been feeling stressed, tired and not happy about working over the Christmas period. So I handed in my notice. Family is everything and comes before anything. One major factor i’ve been learning recently.
I’ve had people come and go in my life throughout the year, and apart from the upsetting family side, I’m in a very happy place at the moment. This is down to a few certain people who i’m very close to and I am overly thankful for that.
So here I am one week from Christmas two weeks till the new year, sat on my living room sofa watching a repeat of last weeks MIC, writing this blog post. As the year ends, everyone starts to talk about New Years resolutions and to be honest its kind of a load of crap. Why because it’s a new year should people suddenly start to make themselves a better person? Start tomorrow? I say that…i’m the worst person for saying i’ll start tomorrow and put it off about 6 months – but hey i’m only human.
Following on from that, I do have a few what you could call ‘resolutions’, but they’re more like things I personally need to realise and work on in life in general, not just for the first month or so until I get bored.
(I guess Kylie Jenner was right, 2016 is the year for realising things)
Of course there’s the silly ones like;
Exercise more – come on Ayesha, actually join the gym like you said you would 8 months ago
Eat better – carbs aren’t the enemy, pasta is my friend, but it wouldn’t hurt to eat a bit of lettuce every now and again.
Curb the caffeine – 3 cups of coffee every morning isn’t the best way to start the day…who am I kidding I can’t function without it anymore.
Buy less – don’t waste money on food (unless it’s fancy restaurant food with cocktails to go with, in that case go wild), and do you really need that top in 5 colours? NO!
Family is important and comes before anything. Make the effort. Don’t take them for granted.
Be a bit more selfish, without being selfish. Do you get me? Stop worrying about other people, do it for YOU! I want to do things I want to do, with people I want to be with. Maybe it’ll help me to be more focused and strive for success and be happier.
Seize every opportunity that comes your way, and work hard towards it. Nothing is handed to you on a plate, unless you are royalty or rich enough to wipe your arse with a 50 dollar bill. This for me applies to Uni, Work and my blogging.
Here’s to a better 2017.
